PROTECTED SINCE 2004
WICK NATURE PRESERVE
This conservancy protects 3.2 acres of mature oak forest and wetlands, which store and filter surface water runoff before it drains into Green Lake. The property was plotted for development and was in the process of being sold when neighbors stepped up and got involved with preserving it in its natural state. It was purchased with a DNR grant, neighborhood donations, and equal contributions from the Green Lake Conservancy and the Green Lake Sanitary District. There are no established trails but visitors may explore the woods. There has been considerable volunteer work over the years in removing buckthorn and other invasives while establishing native vegetation.
