FOREST AVENUE
OAK SAVANNA

This property was the first acquisition for the Green Lake Conservancy. The small parcel, which was the location of a previous commercial establishment, was acquired through donations from neighbors of the property. The land was restored to native prairie and oak savanna which were the dominant vegetation communities of the Green Lake region prior to European settlement. The property has a plaque honoring Tom Kimen, who was the first president of the Green Lake Conservancy. There is a short mowed trail and a sitting bench on the property to relax and take in the savanna.

Trillium Recurvatum Beck discovered at Forest Ave. Conservancy

Trillium recurvatum was discovered at Forest Ave. Conservancy on 27 April 2005 by Randal Maurer, environmental consultant with Native Solutions, Appleton, WI. T. recurvatum is rare statewide and listed as a “special concern” species. In Wisconsin, T. recurvatum is mainly distributed in the southernmost counties that border northern Illinois, so finding it in Green Lake County is highly unlikely.
